What is the official Currency of Morocco?
Moroccan currency is the Moroccan Dirham, also known as Dhs or MAD. The Moroccan Dirham is a closed currency, meaning you are not allowed to import or export it. Foreign currency may be exchanged at the airport on arrival, at a bank, or a small amount at certain hotels.
A Moroccan Dirham is composed of 100 centimes, and notes are available in denominations of 200, 100, 50 and 20, and coins are available in denominations of 10, 5, 2 and 1 or 50, 20, 10 and 5 centimes.
Most upmarket restaurants, shops and hotels accept debit cards, and those that do not, accept Visa or MasterCard, but a surcharge may apply. Please note that Amex is not a popular card.
